Check your body language.
In our P31 newsletters, we talk a lot about communication, mainly because it is a crucial component of conflict resolution and driving growth and intimacy in a relationship. Today, we’re going to dive deep into another form of communication: non-verbal communication.
There are many forms of non-verbal communication. I’ll list some below.
Positive Forms of Non-Verbal Communication:
• Eye Contact
• Smiling
• Open Body Posture
• Hugs
• Nodding
• Appropriate Closeness
Negative Forms of Non-Verbal Communication:
• Rolling Eyes
• Turning Away
• Unwanted Touch
• Sneering
• Glaring
• Walking Away Mid-Conversation
• Slamming Objects
That’s just to name a few. If you’re trying to resolve conflict in your relationship, you have to occasionally (some more than others, lol) check your body language! To maintain healthy relationships, it is crucial to be aware of and manage non-verbal communication. Positive non-verbal cues, such as maintaining eye contact, smiling, and using open body language, can foster trust, respect, and emotional connection. Minimizing negative cues can prevent misunderstandings and conflicts.
Rolling your eyes when trying to resolve conflict has never done anybody any good, lol.
How to manage your non-verbal communication well.
A Proverbs 31 woman is wise and skilled in managing her non-verbal body language.
Once you become proficient in managing your non-verbal communication skills, you’ll significantly enhance the interactions in your relationships.
To be effective in managing your non-verbal communication, you must become self-aware. Pay attention to your own non-verbal cues, such as facial expressions and posture, and correct them as needed.
Managing your emotions is also a crucial part of non-verbal communication. Staying calm and composed when conflicts arise will help you maintain positive body language.
If you find yourself struggling with managing your non-verbal communication, you can learn by observing others who communicate effectively. Additionally, seek feedback from trusted friends or family to gain insight into how you come across to others
