What Does Scripture Say About Decisions?
One thing we must do daily is make decisions. Research suggests that a single person makes roughly 35,000 decisions each day. Minor decisions and major decisions. So many decisions. Let’s touch base on what Scripture says about decision-making!
We have to start with the Bible emphasizing the importance of seeking God’s wisdom when making decisions.
Joshua 1:8: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
Wisdom plays a crucial role in decision-making by providing the insight, discernment, and prudence necessary to make sound and beneficial choices. These choices have a rippling effect on the outcome of your life. Wisdom is key when it comes to making decisions. It helps us grasp complex situations, foresee potential outcomes, seek the right advice, and choose paths that are ethical, sensible, and in line with God’s guidance.
Scripture says much more on decision-making, such as:
• Seeking God’s guidance
• Praying for wisdom
• Seeking godly counsel
• Trusting in God’s sovereignty
• Having faith when making decisions
• And more!
We will touch base on a few of those below!
How to Make the Right Decisions for Your Family.
Now that we’ve covered some insights on decision-making and biblical principles, let’s apply them to making decisions for your family.
Making the right decisions for your family involves various factors and can be overwhelming, considering you probably want to ensure the well-being, growth, and happiness of each family member. Here are some steps to guide you in making the right decisions for your family!
1. Seek God’s Guidance: Pray for wisdom and discernment. Let God lead your family by letting Him lead you. By gaining the Lord’s wisdom and discernment, you can make decisions in alignment with His will for your family.
2. Consult Scripture: I know I say this often but… Girl, read your Bible! Reflect on biblical principles that relate to the decision you need to make. The Bible offers wisdom on many aspects of family life, including relationships, finances, and parenting.
3. Communicate with Your Family: This is not a dictatorship, lol. Involve your family members in the decision-making process. This will ease the pressure of making big decisions and result in a more desirable outcome because you are considering everyone’s needs and perspectives.
4. Consider the Outcome: My mentor Pawel taught me this: consider the outcome and if you can bear the consequences. Proverbs 14:15 also mentions, “The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.” This verse highlights the importance of prudence and careful consideration of one’s actions, suggesting that wise individuals think ahead and consider the consequences of their decisions.
5. Be Flexible and Adaptable: Be prepared to adjust your decisions as circumstances change. James 4:13-15 reminds us not to make presumptive plans but to acknowledge God’s ultimate control over our lives and decisions. So make decisions and plan, but don’t do too much. lol.
6. Trust in God’s Plan: Have faith that God is in control and that He works all things for the good of those who love Him. Romans 8:28 is one of my favorite verses: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
7. Reflect and Learn: After making a decision, reflect on its outcome. Consider what worked well and what could be improved for future decisions.
By following these steps, you can make thoughtful and prayerful decisions that support the well-being and harmony of your family in alignment with God’s will.
